Moore Park was christened in the 1860s, named in honor of Charles Moore, Sydney’s Mayor from 1867 to 1869. In its early days, the park was not just a space for leisure but also played a significant role in the socio-cultural dynamics of Sydney. From military training grounds to areas designated for large public gatherings and celebrations, Moore Park was central to the city’s collective experiences.

The Sydney park has seen the likes of horse-drawn vehicles before transitioning to cater to the burgeoning automotive age in the 20th century. With the establishment of sporting and entertainment infrastructures, Moore Park began its transition into the vibrant hub we know today.

While the park’s early days were marked by military drills and public assemblies, today’s Moore Park is a playground for sports enthusiasts and families alike. The Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) and Allianz Stadium, for instance, are not just mere structures but temples of sport that have hosted countless memorable moments, from legendary cricket matches to exhilarating rugby showdowns.

The Entertainment Quarter, with its cinemas, restaurants, and live performance venues, echoes the park’s longstanding tradition of being a space for collective celebration, albeit in a contemporary context.

Moreover, as an urban retreat, Moore Park NSW offers a plethora of activities. Whether you’re a jogger tracing its scenic paths, a family enjoying a sun-soaked picnic, or a golfer aiming for a hole-in-one, the park has something for everyone.

Home to Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG),  Sydney Football Stadium, Entertainment Quarter and Centennial Parklands, Moore Park offers its visitors recreation options galore. Cricket legends are born at the SCG, which doubles as a venue for Australian Football. Neighbouring Sydney Football Stadium is a rugby fan’s heaven, and hosts major league and union games. Both are considered among Australia’s best venues.

Great entertainment, shopping and dining is on offer at the Entertainment Quarter. Enjoy late night shopping at the huge range of outlets on Bent Street, grab a casual bite then catch a movie at a state-of-the-art cinema. Entertainment Quarter is also home to the historic Hordern Pavilion and Royal Hall of Industries, both of which host an array of events and exhibitions. Sporting events and cultural activities regularly occur in the spectacular natural setting of the nearby Centennial Parklands, whose wide-open spaces are a hit with city-weary Sydneysiders.
