Coonawarra

With the Coonawarra name comes the expectation of quality, estate grown red wines, famous around the world.

Sometimes called ‘Australia’s other red centre’, the Coonawarra district has spent more than 100 years developing a reputation for outstanding red wines from its famous terra rossa soils. Its secret lies in these soils, pure underground waters and a long cool ripening season which gives rise to products known and consumed with delight across the world.

The wine region was first established in 1890 and today many of the same families still operate cellar doors on their part of the terra rossa strip.

Take a chauffeured tour, or designate a driver and sample the cellar doors throughout Coonawarra. The staff working in the cellar doors are often part of the rich family history that has established the tradition of the region.

Cellar dooring is a relaxing way to soak in the area’s history, culture and traditions. Some cellar doors offer a food service option, which allow you to match the fine wine with the district’s excellent produce.
