Ora Banda, WA

A ghost town coming back to life, Ora Banda (45 minutes’ drive northwest of Kalgoorlie) is set in bushland that typifies the early pioneering days of the Western Australian goldfields.

Today’s goldmining companies are still working the same sites discovered nearly a century ago, and on the outskirts of town you will find the Ora Banda State Battery which is still used to crush ore, and other buildings of a bygone era.

The Golden Quest Discovery Trail, a 956 kilometre drive that explores the 1890 gold rush area, passes through Ora Banda. The trail takes you on a journey into the stories of the gold rush days and enables you to see the architectural and engineering attractions of the area while you learn about the natural history.

Annually in mid September the population swells for a day for the Ora Banda Race Day.

Visit the restored 1911 Ora Banda Historic Inn and relax with a cold drink and a bite to eat.

Ora Banda offers motel rooms, caravan and camping facilities and mining camps.

The Glasshouse Mountains in the hinterland of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast are actually the cores of 20 million year old volcanoes. The sides of the volcanoes have eroded away leaving only the hardened rock spiremountain cores we see today. Learn more about this awe-inspiring landscape.
