Kangaroo Island YHA, Penneshaw

Kangaroo Island YHA is located amidst the beauty and serenity of Penneshaw, one of the most beautiful and unique townships in Australia, home to those famous little Kangaroo Island penguins, gateway to the island and its natural highlights and wildlife experiences. The penguin experience here at Penneshaw is one of the worlds best and the hostel is only metres away from the very accessible penguin colony.

Kangaroo Island is an all year around destination, with a Mediterranean climate. It’s cooler in summer and warmer in winter than the mainland. For the most special wildlife experiences, it is best to visit in the cooler months; the animals are more active and the rainy season provides fresh and plentiful supply of food.

Your visit to Kangaroo Island will be an unforgettable insight into a microcosm of Australian wildlife. Most of our wildlife is native to the island and due to isolation from their mainland relatives, have evolved to being subspecies of their own. They are rarely hunted and if approached carefully, you may gain some special intimate experiences.

Kangaroo Island YHA is very clean and comfortable, completely refurbished and upgraded in November 2003. All rooms are warm, cosy and modern with all linen provided. We are proud of this fabulous hostel overlooking beautiful Hog Bay beach. We offer a friendly and helpful service to all and we would love to see you here.

Internet access available. All rooms have lockers, tables and chairs. Ensuite facilities available in dormitory and family room. Double/twin room available with or without ensuite.

Glasshouse Mountains

The Glasshouse Mountains in the hinterland of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast are actually the cores of 20 million year old volcanoes. The sides of the volcanoes have eroded away leaving only the hardened rock spiremountain cores we see today. Learn more about this awe-inspiring landscape.
