Ducatoon Park, Kadina

Ducatoon Park is located at Kadina, on the main road to Moonta, on South Australia’s Yorke Peninsula. It is a leisurely two hour drive north-west of Adelaide. The property, one of the most picturesque in the region, covers 325 acres of Limestone country and is dedicated to the rearing of young Thoroughbred racehorses.

The cottage was once a stone building used for shearing sheep but architects have transformed it into a boutique country cottage. With just one bedroom, a large living room with a modern kitchenette and excellent views of the property, it is a real country retreat. Temporary children’s beds are available and linen, towels and Continental breakfast are included in the price.

A tour of Ducatoon Park consists of seeing a working horse stud, including viewing young foals, preparation of yearlings for horse sales and the handling and educating of young horses. Depending on the time of year (mid August to November) a cuddle of a young day-old foal is possible. A stroll through the gardens and a visit to the walk-in aviary is also on the agenda.

Peter Toole is also an experienced scroll-saw enthusiast, having won many prizes Australia wide with his carvings. His masterpieces are a replica of the Coronation Coach and of the Eiffel Tower. Guests are invited to browse through the ‘Brag Room’ featuring an excellent array of souvenirs.

Glasshouse Mountains

The Glasshouse Mountains in the hinterland of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast are actually the cores of 20 million year old volcanoes. The sides of the volcanoes have eroded away leaving only the hardened rock spiremountain cores we see today. Learn more about this awe-inspiring landscape.
