Riverlee, Gemalla

Riverlee is a fishing lodge and country getaway, yet it is less than three hours drive from Sydney and one hours drive beyond the spectacular Blue Mountains.

Riverlee offers peace, tranquillity and an escape from city stress, while providing all the comforts of a modern holiday house (except TV). Fly fish for trout along the picturesque Fish River, relax with a book on the verandah, play a game of scrabble in front of the fire, or visit the many nearby attractions.

The Fish River borders the property and provides fishing for Rainbow and Brown trout. Fly fishing and catch and release are preferred. Swimming and other stream activities are available. There is also Trout fishing in nearby streams and the four large dams, Lake Lyell, Oberon Dam, Ben Chiefly Dam and Lake Wallace, all within about 30 minutes drive.

Riverlee occupies 30 acres on the banks of the Fish River, bounded on two sides by the river with almost one kilometre of river frontage. It is situated in the beautiful Tarana valley of the central tablelands, and the rich alluvial river soil is being used to grow wine grapes.

The accommodation is a fully self contained three bedroom house, overlooking the river, with river views from each bedroom. A wrap around verandah provides plenty of places to sit and relax. At 700 meters in altitude, cool evenings are common but electric blankets and heaters are provided for each bedroom and
a large slow-combustion fireplace in the lounge heats the whole house on the cooler nights. Guests need only provide sheets, pillowcases and their own food. The regional towns of Lithgow, Bathurst and Oberon are all about 30 minute’s drive.

A commercial winery Winnoka Park and a conifer nursery Ross Conifers are within walking distance. Great views, rock climbing and interesting rock formations are available at the nearby Evans Crown reserve. The nearby Tarana Hotel is a delightful country pub with log fire in winter and a quaint ‘woolshed’ dining room. Jenolan Caves and Kanangra Walls can be accessed via Oberon.

Country life is different from the big city. The pace is slower and kangaroos and wombats may often be seen on a walk at dusk. A platypus floating in a river pool, is a reward for sitting quietly and patiently down at the river.

Glasshouse Mountains

The Glasshouse Mountains in the hinterland of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast are actually the cores of 20 million year old volcanoes. The sides of the volcanoes have eroded away leaving only the hardened rock spiremountain cores we see today. Learn more about this awe-inspiring landscape.
