Day One Monday – Adelaide, Clare Valley and the Flinders Ranges – You will be picked up at your accommodation (within the Adelaide central business area) at 0900 for commencement of an exciting drive to the Clare Valley wine district. Enjoy lunch at one of the many famous wineries in this region and sample some of the local product before we continue our journey to Hawker which is situated in the beautiful Flinders Ranges. Dinner and overnight in Hawker, our base for the next two nights. Includes accommodation, lunch and dinner.

Day Two Tuesday – Flinders Ranges, scenic flight and four wheel drive vehicle tour – After breakfast we take a good look around the southern Flinders Ranges as we travel to the awe inspiring Wilpena Pound for a thrill of a life time. A spectacular scenic flight over the Pound. From there the remainder of the day will be spent in our four wheel drive vehicle, exploring stunning landscapes, viewing abundant wildlife, enjoying a bush picnic lunch and much more. After an exciting day we return to Hawker for dinner and overnight accommodation. Includes accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day Three Wednesday – Flinders Ranges to Broken Hill – Leaving Hawker after breakfast, we spend the most part of the day travelling through beautiful outback country via Orroroo and Peterborough to the famous silver city – Broken Hill. Lunch today will be a picnic at a nice place of our choice, along the way. Check in at your accommodation (included) and relax before dinner at JJ’s Restaurant. Includes accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Four Thursday – Departure transfer – Broken Hill’s Outback Tours will transfer you to your place of departure anywhere in Broken Hill. Includes breakfast.

You will be met by Broken Hill’s Outback Tours for transfer to your accommodation, your guide will give you an introductory city tour, highlighting all the city centre has to offer. The remainder of the day is at your leisure to explore. Includes accommodation, lunch and dinner.

Day Two Sunday – Broken Hill – Mutawintji National Park – White Cliffs opal field – Departing Broken Hill we travel to the Mutawintji National Park to explore its history and grandeur with Aboriginal art and haunting memories to take us back in time. The wildlife in and around Mutawintji is also spectacular, including big Red kangaroos, emus, eagles and much more. After a picnic lunch we continue our journey and travel to the remote White Cliffs opal field – the oldest commercial opal field in Australia. Tonight dinner will be served by the friendly staff of the famous Underground Dug Out Motel, which is also our accommodation for the night. Includes accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Three Monday – White Cliffs opal field – Broken Hill – We will spend the morning inspecting this extraordinary outback settlement. Learn how and why the community lives underground. Visit some underground opal galleries and perhaps purchase one of the magnificent local opal products. Before lunch we’ll see the old field where in search for colour over 50,000 holes have been dug since the 1890’s. Return to Broken Hill for dinner and overnight accommodation. Includes accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Four Tuesday – Broken Hill – Kinchega National Park – Menindee – Leaving Broken Hill behind we travel to the Kinchega National Park with its spectacular Menindee Lakes. The surface area of these lakes is seven times greater than that of Sydney Harbour. Taking the scenic drive, we follow the mighty Darling River where native bird and animal life abound amongst the enormous River Red gums. After lunch we visit the small outback township of Menindee, the last stop for Burke and Wills (early explorers) on their fateful journey into the unknown. We stay on in Menindee tonight to enjoy the peace and serenity of the outback. Includes accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day Five Wednesday – Menindee – Mungo National Park – Mildura – After a wholesome breakfast we make our way to the Mungo National Park via Pooncarie, another old river port town along the Darling River. Continuing our journey towards the world heritage area of the ancient Willandra Lakes, we arrive at Mungo National Park with its amazing Walls of China and spectacular wildlife. This almost lunar like landscape will inspire the photographer and enchant the nature lover. In the afternoon we drive to Mildura where we check in at our accommodation with time to relax before dinner. Includes accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Six Thursday – Mildura – Broken Hill – Today we leave Mildura and travel to Broken Hill via the Silver City Highway. The countryside from Mildura to Broken Hill slowly changes from mallee scrub and black oak woodlands to the wide open saltbush plains. Check in at your accommodation before lunch at the Legion Club and an afternoon at leisure. Dinner will be served at JJ’s Restaurant. Includes accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Seven Friday – Broken Hill – Flinders Ranges – Leaving Broken Hill we immediately feel the remoteness of the outback, broad landscapes of beauty as we travel along the Barrier Highway. We cross into South Australia at Yunta where we leave the grass and saltbush plains, climbing into the foothills of the Flinders Ranges. Lunch provides another highlight at Erudina Station’s remote woolshed. During the afternoon we continue through the spectacular Flinders Ranges with views over Wilpena Pound and the Elder Range to our destination at Hawker. Overnight Hawker. Includes accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Flinders Ranges Spectacular 6 Day Tour – BH02

Discover Broken Hill, outback South Australia and the majestic Flinders Ranges including a scenic flight over Wilpena Pound.

. Day One Thursday – After arrival into Broken Hill via the Indian Pacific Train all attempts will be made to get you into your accommodation early, otherwise touring will begin at 0900 after tea and coffee is provided at the Broken Hill Legion Club. Its off to the Royal Flying Doctor Service and the Photographic Recollections Exhibit this morning with lunch at MacGregor’s Cafe at the Line of Lode Miners Memorial. After lunch we enjoy some time at the Thankakali Aboriginal Art Centre, if time permits we may visit another gallery of local interest. Dinner at JJ’s Restaurant in the Legion Club. Includes accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Two Friday – Today we head off to the Flinders Ranges via Yunta, Waukaringa Ruins and Erudina Station. A picnic lunch is had at the Erudina Station Shearing Quarters. The afternoon finds us amongst the heart of the Flinders making our way to Hawker through Martins Well, with some time in the afternoon to explore Hawker. Overnight and dinner at the Outback Motel our base in the Flinders. Includes accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Three Saturday – We start to have a good look around the Flinders Ranges, with a drive through the Moralana Scenic Drive. Continuing north through Brachina Gorge and the Bunyeroo Valley to Wilpena Pound for a barbecue lunch. The afternoon will have you enjoying a scenic flight over the Pound and some more unique Flinders features are also seen on return to Hawker, in the way of the Casneaux Tree. Includes accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Four Sunday – Another full day of Flinders Ranges scenery, with a beaut drive to Blinman via the Stokes Hill Lookout and the Walls of China. In Blinman we have a look at the old Blinman Copper Mine ruins and a general look around the town. From here we head down Glass Gorge stopping for refreshments at the Prairie Hotel in Parachilna. Returning to Hawker in the late afternoon. Includes accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Five Monday – Returning to Broken Hill we head out into isolated sheep grazing areas reaching the remote East Whydown Station for lunch, here we enjoy a look around the woolshed. From here we head across the vast open saltbush plains of north eastern South Australia to the New South Wales border into the Barrier Ranges and on into Broken Hill. On arrival into Broken Hill you will be transferred to your accommodation. Dinner is at JJ’s Restaurant at the Legion Club. Includes accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Six Tuesday – A full day today, exploring Broken Hill, the silver city. Starting with a visit to the School of the Air followed by a city sights tour and then on to Whites Mining and Mineral Art Museum before lunch. In the afternoon we go to the Pro Hart Gallery and the International Sculpture Symposium. Light supper at JJ’s Restaurant in the Legion Club prior to your transfer to the train station to meet the Indian Pacific Train home. Includes breakfast, lunch and light supper.

Day Eight Saturday – Flinders Ranges, scenic flight and four wheel drive vehicle tour – After breakfast we take a good look around the southern Flinders Ranges as we travel to the awe inspiring Wilpena Pound for a thrill of a life time. A spectacular scenic flight over the Pound. From there, the remainder of the day will be spent in our four wheel drive vehicle, exploring stunning landscapes, viewing abundant wildlife, enjoying a bush picnic lunch and much more. After an exciting day we return to Hawker for dinner and overnight accommodation. Includes accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Nine Sunday – Flinders Ranges – Clare Valley – Adelaide – We leave the rugged beauty of the Flinders Ranges to experience even more of the numerous delights South Australia has to offer. The Clare Valley wine region has over 30 recognised wine growers and of course we sample some of the local produce. Enjoy a nice lunch at one of the more famous wineries. A leisurely afternoon drive takes us to Adelaide where the tour concludes. Includes breakfast and lunch.
