Active Safaris Adventure Tours

Active Safaris are a locally owned tour company based in Perth, Western Australia, running adventure tours for backpackers, students, independent travellers and groups to the north and south of Western Australia.

Active Safaris visit places like the Pinnacles Desert, (Nambung National Park), Kalbarri National Park visit Natures Window and the famous Z-bend and view the wild dolphins at Monkey Mia. In the world heritage area of Shark Bay you can even take in a dolphin cruise or come south with us and marvel at the giant karri forest, including the famous Tree Top Walk, come on a whale watching Tour between June and November, climb Castle Rock, cruise through the Stirling Range, check out the famous town of Albany, see the Natural Bridge and visit the famous Whale World museum. Wine and cheese tasting in Margaret River or maybe taste the local chocolate. There is so much more to see and do whilst in Western Australia.

Active Safaris provide all camping equipment on our camping tours up north and the accommodation down south is basic shared accommodation but you have the option of upgrading to provide for that bit of luxury if you wish.

Travel is by air-conditioned four wheel drive (4wd) vehicles like Landcruisers or mini-bus style vehicles which carries 12 to 21 passengers. Active safaris drivers are fully trained in outback survival and first aid. Active Safaris are able to access remote areas, pristine beaches, gorges and rugged coastlines.

Two Day South West Whale Watching Tour

Itinerary – Winter Whale Watching Tour (Operates June-November; Adult $300.00 Concession $280.00; Three Hour Whale Watching Tour included.) Twin share $30 extra

Whale Watching Tour – Day 1
We begin with a drive South through historic Mandurah (one of the fasted growing towns in Australia) and Bunbury (second largest town in WA) en route to Donnybrook (the fruit capital of the southwest) to purchase fruit and vegetables. Next stop Manjimup (gateway to the Karri forest) – test your nerve, climb Diamond tree Fire lookout , the tallest wooden lookout in the world. We’ll then have a picnic lunch surrounded by the scents and sounds of the Karri forest. While your heart steadies from pounding, we drive through Virgin Karri Forest to the Tree Top Walk , a tour of living natural beauty. Then we head for our accommodation for the night. We stop at a bottle shop for your convenience before arriving at our Hostel. (L,D)

Whale Watching tour – Day 2
Early to rise, we head for the Augusta & Margaret River region, where the Indian and Southern Oceans meet. Next its the whale watching tour! Humpback whales coming from the feeding grounds of Antarctica migrate to Flinders Bay in Augusta to find a mate before their northward journey. The ‘Whale Watcher’ – a brand new 50 seater catamaran run by Naturaliste Charters, allows the viewing of these awe-inspiring creatures of the deep in absolute luxury. They are thorough professionals, almost guaranteeing that you will always see whales in season. After your cameras have run out of film and we’ve said goodbye to the whales, we’ll have lunch and get back our ‘land legs’. We will then check out the famous Wine, Cheese & Chocolate of Margaret River. Then we head back to Perth for an approximate 1930 arrival. (B,L)

Three Day Albany Margaret River Whale Watching Tour

This three day Southwest adventure tour is based around the whale watching season from June -December we will take in all the amazing sights of The Stirling Range, climb castle rock tour Albany even check out the famous whale world museum and then on to Denmark, Tree top walk and on the last day you can have an optional Whale watching cruise with the chance to see Southern Right whales, Humpback whales and even the great Blue whale.

Albany Whale Watching Tour – Day 1
Leaving Perth in the morning, our vehicle heads south into the vast forest and southern wheat belt area towards the fishing and maritime City of Albany located on King George Sound (pop; 30 000). En route to Albany we stop at the magnificent Stirling and Porongurup Ranges where we climb ‘Castle Rock’ to take in the breathtaking views. Its then on to a local winery for some wine tasting before we continue our journey to Albany. Here we stop at Middleton Beach and take in the view from the Mt Clarence lookout. Keep an eye out for humpback whales who regularly frolic off the coast. We make our overnight stop in Albany where our guests are free to sample the friendly and cosy nightlife. Accommodation costs are fully included.

Albany Whale Watching Tour – Day 2
Following the coastline of King George Sound we head for nearby Frenchman’s Bay to explore the wonderful Whale Museum know as Whale World. Now an award winning tourist destination, Whale World was once a thriving whale station which closed in 1978. During the guided tour, check out the huge range of relics and photographs and enjoy exploring the fully restored whaling boat which forms the centre of the exhibition. Rightly described as Australia’s first ‘industry’ see how the early whale hunters battled with giant Sharks to land their huge catches.

The tour then moves on to the imposing natural coastline features locally known as ‘The Gap’, ‘Natural Bridge’ and the famous blow holes. We continue on to the town of Denmark for a short break before arriving at Greens Pool located in the heart of the forest. A nearby locally run honey shop may provide some tasty ideas for breakfast!

Our next stop is the ‘Valley of the Giants’ which includes an elevated ‘Tree Top Walk’ allowing unrestricted views of the dense Tingle Tree canopy, a unique eco-tourism experience. Its then on to our next overnight stop at Walpole, we visit the local arts and crafts shop. Overnight stay is Budget accom which includes all facilities barbecue dinner.

Albany Whale Watching Tour – Day 3
After an early start, we journey to the famous Augusta Margaret River region where the mighty Indian and Southern Oceans meet. Its now time for some serious whale watching. Boarding our vessel the ‘Whale Watcher’ a new 50 seat catamaran we head out into Flinders Bay to witness the spectacular migration of Humpback whales migrating from their feeding grounds in Antarctica. ‘Whale Watcher’ allows unrestricted views of these magnificent mammals in total comfort and safety. For those who are not keen on the whales, we can also visit one off the vast networks of caves in the region. Following a delicious lunch prepared by your guide, we continue on to some of the local wine, cheese and chocolate shops before a leisurely return to Perth arriving at approximately 1930.

Two Day South West Discovery Tour

Two days touring the South West’s natural wonders visiting the latest Eco Tourism attractions. The tour includes a dolphin cruise, the Caveworks Discovery Centre and tour, Tree Top Walk, Gloucester Tree National Park, wildflowers, native animals, swimming, wine tasting, accommodation and all meals.

Day One: We begin with a drive south throughout historic Mandurah and Rockingham on route to Donnybrook for fresh locally grown fruit and vegetables. Next is a picnic lunch surrounded by the smells of the forest at Manjimup. After lunch test your nerve with a chance to climb the Diamond Tree fire lookout. While your heart stops pounding we drive through virgin Karri forest to the tree top walk, a tour of living natural history. We explore Walpole next for local arts and crafts as well as a bottle shop for your convenience. We finish off the day visiting a wild surf beach during the summer months only before staying in accommodation in the forest near Pemberton.

Day Two: After a night around the fire and barbecue we rise to a wonderful crisp south west morning. Margaret River is next and a chance to explore lovely lakes cave, with fascinating aboriginal and native history displays. A chance for a refreshing swim at the famous surf beach, Surfers Point, then lunch and tasting at an exclusive winery. We then stroll through Margaret River for a chance to purchase local souvenirs before heading for Bunbury for a one hour dolphin cruise to meet the dolphins of Koombana Bay. Then we return to the city at approximately 1900.

Three Day Albany Margaret River Tour

Albany Tour – Day 1 (H)

Its then on to the delightful Town of Denmark located on the edge of the massive Karri and Tingle Tree Forests which dominate this part of WA. Why not follow in the steps of the early pioneers and take a refreshing swim at Greens Pool a natural water feature set amongst the trees. From here we continue to the Valley of the Giants a vast area of massive Tingle trees. Why not explore the upper canopy of the forest by taking a stroll along the elevated Tree Top Walk an engineering marvel allowing visitors to experience the unique eco system. We journey on through pristine National Parks to the Mount Franklin district and then our pre-arranged Budget accommodation awaits in Pemberton. Enjoy a delicious barbecue and campfire atmosphere. Albany Tour – Day 3 (H)
Awaking to a wonderful misty southwest morning we rise early to the sights of Kangaroos and Emus which are abundant in the area. Heading north west, we journey to the famous wine and surfing region of Augusta and Margaret River. The spectacular Limestone coast winds its way to the mouth of the Margaret River . Nearby, massive waves from the Indian Ocean wash onto pristine beaches home of the world famous WA Masters Surf Championships. We continue to The Warden Centre a purpose built visitors centre where we learn about the habits and lifestyles of the early Aboriginal people the Noongars. Why not try some ‘bush tucker’ and hear about the amazing ‘bushcraft’ skills used by the original people who thrived in the district for thousands of years. Drift off to the sound of the Didgeridoo and experience your own ‘Dreamtime’.

After lunch, we enjoy wine tasting at an exclusive winery and also spoil ourselves at the locally run Chocolate Company. Time permitting, we visit the cool, eerie caverns of the Ngilgi Cave complex. Its then onto the City of Bunbury for the climax of the tour a boat cruise around Koombana Bay to witness the bottle nose Dolphins which are abundant in the clear blue waters (seasonal variations may apply). We arrive back in Perth at around 1930. (B,L)

Four Day Monkey Mia Adventure Tour

This northern tour focuses on Monkey Mia, a beautiful resort that has been built primarily because of the dolphins on view. In traveling to and from Monkey Mia there is plenty to see. The tour highlights the dramatic contrasts of nature with stops at the famous Pinnacle Desert and Kalbarri National Park to name a few – all demonstrating Mother Nature at her most fascinating. The photos turn out a treat! and our adventure tour actually stay at the Monkey Mia Resort.

Monkey Mia Tour – Day 1 (L/D)
Departing Perth 0800, we head north to Nambung National Park and stop to explore the famous Pinnacle Desert . After lunch at one of the small fishing towns there is a chance for a swim in the Indian Ocean, or a nice stroll along deserted beaches . We carry on our journey through Geraldton and along the Batavia Coast , the sight of many shipwrecks, ask your guide for the stories.In season check out the wildflowers en route to the Pink Lakes and the Ocean Gorges (Pot Ally) . We stop to watch the sunset & Humpback whales frolicking in the Ocean (seasonal) and then we head for camp, which is a good time for spotting kangaroos . Tonight we stay in Kalbarri . All amenities. We stop at a bottle shop on the way, traditional ozzie barbie tonight.

Monkey Mia Tour – Day 2 (B/L/D)
This morning, we have a short drive to Kalbarri National Park where we begin the day with a bush walk to check out the awesome views of the Murchison River – Z-bends and the famous Natures Window .We then continue north through station country, where we cross Meadow and Nerren Nerren sheep stations, en route to Shark Bay . The wild flowers are abundant in season (July/September) . Next we stop to visit the Stromatolites (the oldest living things on the planet) and then on to Shell beach , probably the longest shell beach in the world for a refreshing dip. Next stop Denham (the most westerly town in Australia) for a bottle shop stop before arriving at Monkey Mia Resort for the night. Most companies stay in Denham but we would rather relax around the barbie or swimming pool and spa . We may even see the Dolphins hunting at night for fish along the shore line.

Monkey Mia Tour – Day 3 (B/L/D)
We have the morning to spend at Monkey Mia to see the wild dolphins that come in shore, a truly unforgettable experience. There is also an opportunity to take an optional cruise on a catamaran, ‘Aristocat2’ / ‘ Shotover’ to see more marine life, maybe a Dugong (the legendary Mermaid Myth), this is the best place in the world to see these magical creatures. Sea snakes , turtles and tiger shark may also be seen. We will have lunch at the resort, before moving on to Eagles Bluff , where we take in an unforgettable view of Shark Bay from the cliff tops and see more marine life swimming down below, maybe a Sting Ray or a shark or two. We start heading back south to Northampton, were we tuck into a campsite meal and listen to the birds. accommodation has all amenities and a bottle shop stop of course.

Monkey Mia Tour – Day 4 (B/L)
Today it’s sandboarding ! and some fun over large natural sand dunes so hang on. Then we cool off in the ocean with a quick dip at a deserted beach and some sunbathing. After lunch we head back to Perth and Swan Valley where we stop and enjoy some wine tasting at an exclusive winery or check out the Chocolate Factory before arriving back in Perth approximately 1800.

Seven Day West Coast Adventure

This tour is ideal for travellers wishing to see the North and South of Western Australia with limited time. The tour takes in the four day Monkey Mia tour and the three day Southwest tour, two of the most popular tours around Perth. You can join the tours on a Tuesday or a Friday, the choice is yours.

Perth to Albany – Day 1 (L, D)

Perth to Kalbarri – Day 4 (L, D) – Departing Perth Friday 0800 this is where we pick up our new travellers.
We head north to Nambung National Park and stop to explore the Famous Pinnacle Desert. After Lunch at one of the small fishing towns there is a chance for a swim in the Indian Ocean, or a nice stroll along deserted beaches. We carry on our journey through Geralton and along the Batavia Coast, the sight of many shipwrecks, ask your guide for the stories.In season check out the Wildflowers enroute to the Pink Lakes and the Ocean Gorges (Pot Ally). We stop to watch the sunset and HumpbackWhales frolicking in the Ocean (seasonal) and then we head for camp, which is a good time for spotting Kangaroos. Tonight we stay in Kalbarri National Park at a Horse Ranch. Bunk House, all amenities. We stop at a bottle shop on the way, traditional ozzie barbecue tonight.

Kalbarri to Monkey Mia – Day 5 (B, L, D)

There is also an opportunity to take an optional cruise on a catamaran, Aristocat2 /Shotover to see more marine life, maybe a Dugong, (the legendary Mermaid Myth) this is the best place in the world to see these magical creatures. Sea Snakes, Turtles, or a Tiger Shark may also be seen.We will have lunch at the resort, before moving on to Eagles Bluff, where we take in an unforgettable view of Shark Bay from the cliff tops and see more marine life swimming down below, maybe a Sting Ray or a shark or two. We start heading back south for our final night, a Farm stay near Northampton. We can tuck into a campsite meal and listen to the birds. All amenities and a bottle shop stop of course.

Northampton to Perth – Day 7 (B, L)
Today it`s sandboarding and some fun over large natural sand dunes so hang on. Then we cool off in the ocean with a quick dip at a deserted beach and some sunbathing.

After lunch we head back to Perth and Swan valley where we stop and enjoy some wine tasting at an exclusive winery or check out the Chocolate Company before arriving back in Perth approximately 1800.
