Alligator Airways

Alligator Airways specialise in scenic air tours throughout the Kimberley and into the Northern Territory, viewing some of the most spectacular scenery that the region offers. If you’re on a tight schedule and want to get the most out of your visit, then we have the tour for you. Experience the magnificent Bungle Bungle ranges after taking in vast lakes, irrigation areas, spectacular ranges, huge cattle stations, mineral exploration sites, dam walls, and the largest diamond mine in the world.

We have regular departures from Kununurra along the Kimberley Coast over the Mitchell Plateau and King George Falls, as well as combining our tours with cruises on Lake Argyle and the Ord River. Alligator Airways is association with Mungalalu Tours are now offering exciting tours of Truscott Airbase.

Alligator Airways is Kununurra’s longest standing scenic air charter company.
We provide courtesy pick up and return, and passengers are presented with a comprehensive briefing of their tour, prior to departure in a well maintained, air-conditioned terminal.

During the tour, passengers will enjoy full flight commentaries from their pilot through a personal address system and receive a free in-flight information booklet.

Touring Options

Tour One – Local Scenic Flight

Take in all the spectacular local scenery in thirty five minutes. Taking off from Kununurra we fly over Lake Kununurra, Packsaddle Irrigation Area, Carr-Boyd Ranges, Spillway Creek, continuing on to the magnificent expanse of Lake Argyle for a bird’s eye view of the Argyle Dam Wall. Return to Kununurra via the Diversion Dam Wall and the southern section of Ivanhoe Plains Irrigation Area.

This tour departs from Kununurra daily on demand.

Tour C – Fly/Morning Magic/ Ord Cruise

This tour encompasses four local tours. Depart Lake Kununurra by floatplane on your Bungles Scenic Flight, dropping off at Lake Argyle at 0800, where you will be met at the boat ramp and transfered to the Lake Argyle Inn for breakfast (not included in tour cost). At 0920, you will visit the Argyle Homestead Museum before being dropped back at the boat ramp for your 1000 "Morning Magic Cruise". The cruise takes two hours and covers over 50 kilometres of Lake Argyle, after which it is back to the Inn for lunch (not included in tour cost). At 1330 you will be picked up for your Triple J cruise along the Ord River arriving back in Kununurra with the sunset at 1730.

Tour departs from Kununurra at 0600.

Tour Two (C) – Overnight Bungles Air/Ground

This overnight Bungles experience gives the visitor the unique opportunity to take in the sheer beauty of the Cathedral Gorge and Echidna Chasm however with the added experience of an overnight stay in the Bungle Bungles. Departure is after breakfast for your return flight to Kununurra

Departs from Kununurra at 0600 and returning the following day to 0830.

Tour Five – Coastal flight/Aboriginal and Drysdale River Station

For a full dose of the Kimberley, you can’t beat our "works" tour, with views of our rugged ranges through to the spectacular coastal scenery mixed with the unique history of this vast region. The "works" tour departs from Kununurra heading north-west along the lower Ord River with it’s large population of fresh and saltwater crocodiles. We fly past the historic Port of Wyndham over Cambridge Gulf, Adolphus Isalnd, then the Berkley River and falls. From there it is coastal to King George River and falls across to the Drysdale River, out to the river mouth then south past the old Pago Mission site to Kalumburu. We land at the historic Kalumburu Mission for a tour of the Monastery and the chance to explore the World War Two Bomber Wrecks. Departing Kalumburu, we fly over the wartime airbase of Truscott, past some of the Kimberleys most stunning coastline to Port Warrender, the Mitchell River and the spectacular Mitchell falls. After a good look at the falls, we fly direct to Drysdale River Station for a one hour lunch stop. Following a good Kimberley size feed, we head back to Kununurra overflying the .

This tour departs from Kununurra daily at 0600. It includes lunch and in-flight refreshments.

Tour Four (F) – Bungles Scenic Flight

If you are on a tight schedule and want to get the most out of your visit – then this is the tour for you! Created especially for experiencing the best sights the East Kimberley and Kununurra regions have to offer. Enjoy the exhilarating sensation of freedom in one of our high winged aircraft specially designed for air tours. You’ll be amazed at what you will see and learn in this 2 hour low level flight, from the irrigation and farming areas, the vastness of Lake Argyle, dam walls, homesteads/ranches, mineral exploration sites, rivers, massive water moving creeks and waterfalls (wet season), the largest Diamond mine in the world and not to forget the star of the tour "The Bungle Bungles" which is now listed as a World Heritage site.

Tours depart from Kununurra at 0600, 0900 and 1430.

Tour Three – Coastal Scenic from Drysdale River Station

People traveling along the Gibb River Road will have the opportunity to do fantastic coastal scenic tours in our aircraft based at the station.
Departing from Drysdale River Station, your flight path takes you over spectacular country completely inaccessible by vehicle. The Drysdale River, Mount Hann, Prince Regent River, Kings Cascade, Saint George Basin, Price Frederick Harbour, Mitchell Falls then along the King Edward River back to the station.

This tour departs from Drysdale Station daily on demand through April to September. This is dependent on Gibb River Road access.

Tour Two (B) – One Day Bungles – Two Gorges

This one day tour of the Bungles provides the visitor to the park a more comprehensive look at the wonders the Bungles has to offer. Details are as Tour Two (A), with the addition of Echidna Chasm (dramatic sheer chasm walls and Livistonia Palms)

Departs from Kununurra at 0600 and returns approximately 1700.

Tour Two (A) – One Day Bungles – Air/Ground

Depart from Kununurra in our high winged aircraft for a scenic flight over Lake Argyle, Lissadell and Texas Downs Stations, the Osmond Ranges and the Bungles before landing at Bellburn Airstrip. Transfer to an air-conditioned four wheel drive for the drive to Cathedral Gorge, located at the southern end of the Bungles where the renowned beehive domes are found. Your guided walk through this gorge includes lunch at the amphitheatre. On return to Bellburn Base Camp, light refreshments will be served prior to boarding your aircraft for the return flight to Kununurra, over Argyle Diamond Mine and the Ragged Ranges.
