Scuba World

Scuba World is an SSI Platinum Training Centre located at The Wharf, Mooloolaba on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. Its present owner, Instructor Trainer, Ian McKinnon, established scuba World in 1980.

For more than 25 years, Scuba World’s 100% safety record is one of the finest in the recreational diving industry.

Scuba World’s location is unique. It is situated on a private marina in the Mooloolaba Boat Harbour, which is considered one of the safest along the east coast of Australia.

Scuba World has its own on site training tank, which it uses to teach all levels of diver certification, as well as a modern classroom with marina views and a large retail store, which sells the world’s most popular brands of diving equipment.

Scuba World conducts the exciting, fully escorted shark dives at Underwater World, which is located right next door. The shark dives are available for both certified divers and non-divers. The thirty-minute dive gives the diver the chance to get up close and personal with large but docile grey nurse sharks, as well as sandbar whalers, wobbygong sharks, and bamboo sharks. Large black bull rays hover close to the diver’s heads.

Scuba World has been conducting fully escorted trips to the offshore reefs for more than 25 years. The reefs are a short fifteen-minute trip from the entrance to the boat harbour.

The most popular dive site off the Sunshine Coast is the wreck of the former ex-HMAS Brisbane, a 133 metre former Australian Navy destroyer that was scuttled three miles off the coast on July 31, 2005.

Scuba World holds a Queensland Government Permit to operate commercial dive trips to the Ex-HMAS Brisbane.

Local Reef and Ex-HMAS Brisbane Dive

The ex-HMAS Brisbane was scuttled on July 31, 2005 to create a fully protected artificial reef. The Brisbane is located in the ex-HMAS Brisbane Conservation Park, managed by Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service.

The ship lies in 27 metres of water approximately five nautical miles north of the entrance to Mooloolaba Boat Harbour.

Scuba World conducts trips daily to the Brisbane from our dive shop, which is located at The Wharf marina.

Divers load and unload their gear from right outside the shop.

Experienced dive guides are available on each dive to enhance the experience for the visitor.

Shark Dives at Underwater World

Scuba World conducts fully escorted shark dives at Underwater World every day except Tuesday.

Divers do not have to be certified divers to do the shark dive – it is available for both certified and non-certified divers.

A scuba lesson is provided for non-divers immediately prior to the dive.

Underwater World shark tank is home to large but docile grey nurse sharks, sandbar whaler sharks, wobbygongs and bamboo sharks. There are also large bull rays and coach whip rays.

The shark dive is very popular and prior bookings are essential.
