Coogee Beach is located approximately 6 miles (10 kilometers) south-east of Sydney’s central business district (CBD). The beach is easily accessible by public transportation and by car, and the journey by car takes approximately 20-25 minutes depending on traffic.

Don’t miss the chance to go on an invigorating coastal walk along sandstone platforms, checking out Maroubra Beach in the south and Clovelly, Bronte and Bondi Beach in the north. If you fancy conquering the waves a surf school operates from Maroubra Beach.

Or you can swim in the protected marine reserve of Gordons Bay, just north of Coogee Beach, a haven for snorkelling and scuba diving. Coogee has a lively atmosphere with several cafes, restaurants and bars, parks, playgrounds and a big variety of accommodations. Coogee Bay Road boasts smart restaurants alongside hip cafes and fish and chip shops. It’s a great spot for families and people of all ages and interests.

Coogee in Sydney

The Coogee Beach Ocean Pool (pictured below), also known as the Ross Jones rock pool, is located at the southern end of the beach and is one of the most popular attractions in the area.

The pool is a large, saltwater swimming hole that is surrounded by rocks and offers beautiful ocean views. It was built in 1947 and it’s been a popular spot for swimming and sunbathing ever since.

The pool is open all year round and is patrolled by lifeguards during the summer months, making it a safe and enjoyable swimming spot for people of all ages.

A few hundred metres further south is Wylie’s Baths (pictured below) – another iconic ocean pool – built in 1907. This also has a small kiosk and changing rooms, making it a great spot for a day out at the beach.

Away from the beach, try your luck at nearby Royal Randwick Racecourse on a race day. Or watch up and coming stars at a public performance at NIDA, the National Institute of Dramatic Art where many of Australia’s fine film actors have studied.
