Adnyamathanha-Iga Warta 4 Day Experience – DT03

The Adnyamathanha people from Iga Warta welcome you to the Adnyamathanha Iga Warta four day experience in the northern Flinders Ranges. A rugged landscape of craggy peaks and deep cool gorges and home to pockets of bountiful wildlife. Located approximately 650 kilometres north of Adelaide it is a haven for the plains kangaroos, the elusive Yellow-footed Rock Wallaby, hordes of raucous cockatoos and the Wedge-tailed Eagle. Descendants of the traditional Aboriginal Adnyamathanha still live in the Ranges and at the small outstation Aboriginal community of Iga Warta, home of the native orange, the Coulthard’s have established a unique family enterprise to share their land and culture with visitors. Here you have the opportunity with your Aboriginal hosts to horse ride, learn about bush medicine plants, take bush tucker excursions, hike to spectacular gorges and waterholes, listen to stories and songs by the campfire, learn about tool and artefact making and contemporary Adnyamathanha lifestyles, visit the many engraving and painting sites and enjoy warm hospitality and great food.

. Day One – Adelaide to Flinders Ranges – Private airport transfer. Depart Adelaide by air to Port Augusta at approximately 0830. Then drive to Wilpena Pound for a short walk and lunch. Travel to Iga Warta and enjoy an evening around the campfire listening to old and new stories about Adnyamathanha culture through music and general discussion. Overnight cabin accommodation at Iga Warta. Includes lunch and dinner.

. Day Two – Red Gorge and Iga Warta – Today travel to Red Gorge an Aboriginal engraving site and enjoy a barbecue lunch followed by a discussion with an Adnyamathanha elder. Visit the Aboriginal community of Iga Warta. Enjoy another evening around the campfire as guests of the Adnyamathanha people. Overnight cabin accommodation at Iga Warta. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Three – Iga Warta – A choice of two of the following activities. Flora and fauna interpretive walks, four wheel drive vehicle tours to explore the surrounding region and sites of significance, horse rides, hiking through the wilderness and having discussions with your Adnyamathanha hosts about their culture. Farewell dinner at Iga Warta. Overnight cabin accommodation at Iga Warta. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Four – Iga Warta to Adelaide – Morning activities at Iga Warta, then arrive at Port Augusta Airport at approximately 1600 to meet return flight to Adelaide. Arriving in Adelaide at approximately 1730. Private hotel transfer. Overnight accommodation at Mercure Grosvenor Hotel.

Coorong/Flinders Ranges 6 Day Tour – DT01

This six day, six night tour of the Coorong and Flinders Ranges is designed for travellers seeking sincere encounters with Aboriginal people in the company of exceptional guides. Begin your journey in Adelaide visiting the South Australian Museum and its world class Aboriginal cultures Gallery. Your experience continues to the Coorong Wilderness Lodge where the Ngarrindjeri people welcome you to the Coorong. This hauntingly beautiful landscape of wild untamed beaches, sheltered bays and towering dunes was created by the ancestral hero Ngurunderi in the Dreamtime. This is in startling contrast to the northern Flinders Ranges, a rugged landscape of craggy peaks and deep cool gorges and home to bountiful pockets of wildlife. It is a haven for the plains kangaroos, the elusive Yellow footed rock wallaby, hordes of raucous cockatoos and the Wedge Tailed Eagle. Here the Adnyamathanha people from Iga Warta welcome you for a three day cultural stay. They will tell you about the Dreaming songlines of the great ancestor beings such as the giant snake, the Arkaroo, who formed many of the features of the land, explain the many wild food and medicine plants of the region, host you on the numerous activities available and discuss contemporary Aboriginal issues.

. Day One – Adelaide – From approximately 1330 to 1430 participate in a public tour of the South Australian Museum’s Australian Aboriginal Cultures Gallery. You can take a behind the scenes tour followed by wine and nibbles at own cost. Your evening is free to relax or discover Adelaide. Overnight accommodation at the Mercure Grosvenor Hotel.

. Day Two – Adelaide to the Coorong – After you have collected your hire car at approximately 0800 you make your way to the Coorong Wilderness Lodge located about 200 kilometres (124 miles) south-east of Adelaide. After your welcome by your Aboriginal hosts you are introduced to Ngarrindjeri culture and the uniqueness of the Coorong through video and discussion. Spend your day kayaking along the lagoons and waterways of the Coorong, exploring the beach and dunes of the Great Southern Ocean. Enjoy a bush tucker interpretive walk and learn about the past and present history of the Ngarrindjeri people. At approximately 1600 we depart for Adelaide. Overnight accommodation at Mercure Grosvenor Hotel. Includes breakfast and lunch.

. Day Three – Adelaide to Flinders Ranges – Return your hire car at the Adelaide Airport at approximately 0800 and depart with Airlines of South Australia to Port Augusta at 0830. Your guide meets you and drives you to Wilpena Pound for a short walk followed by lunch. We then travel on to Parachilna with a population of seven and enjoy dinner at the Prairie Hotel, renowned for its innovative accommodation and high quality indigenous food. Overnight accommodation at the Prairie Hotel. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Coorong/Ngarrindjeri 3 Day Experience – DT02

Come and enjoy this three day, two night Coorong Ngarrindjeri Experience. Your hosts, Ngarrindjeri Elder George Trevorrow and his family welcome you to the Coorong located approximately 200 kilometres south-east of Adelaide. This unique and hauntingly beautiful landscape of wild untamed beaches and sheltered bays stretches 120 kilometres south from the mouth of the Murray River and is protected from the pounding Southern Ocean by a narrow dunal barrier. This was a land of great bounty rich with plant, marine, bird and animal life that sustained one of Australia’s densest Aboriginal populations in a state of affluence. Today the descendants of the Ngarrindjeri are the custodians of 1,000 acres of this unspoilt wilderness. They are still strongly connected to these lands and waterways and delight in passing on their extensive knowledge and sharing the magic of their land and culture with visitors at the Coorong Wilderness Lodge. On your three day tour they will inform, challenge and entertain you.

. Day One – Adelaide to the Coorong – Depart Adelaide by road at approximately 0900. Interpretation of Aboriginal sites en-route to the Coorong. Learn the history of indigenous fringe camps. After your welcome by your Aboriginal hosts you are introduced to Ngarrindjeri culture and the uniqueness of the Coorong through video and discussion. In the evening enjoy story telling around a campfire while cooking damper followed by a barbecue dinner, weather permitting. Overnight accommodation at Coorong Wilderness Lodge. Includes lunch and dinner.

Day Two – The Coorong – Today kayak (weather permitting) along the lagoons and waterways of the Coorong, explore the beach and dunes of the Great Southern Ocean, learn about the past and present history of the Ngarrindjeri people and participate in a bush tucker interpretive walk. Overnight accommodation at Coorong Wilderness Lodge. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Three – The Coorong to Adelaide – Morning farewell. Hear the ancient stories of Milang, then visit Victor Harbour and hear the Ngarrindjeri interpretation of the islands and landmarks. Arrive in Adelaide at approximately 1800. Including breakfast.
